Chieti is one of the most ancient cities of Italy. It is said, in fact, that it was actually founded 500 years before Rome from Achilles, who named it Theate in honor of his mother. 

Chieti lies on a hill about 330 meters above the sea level, in the central-eastern part of Abruzzo, and extends over two levels, Chieti High, the oldest and rich of historical and artistic sites, and Chieti Scalo, the newest and commercial part.
