Abruzzo is situated at the centre of the Italian peninsula and is bordered on the east by the Adriatic Sea for 150 Kms. Abruzzo is one of the most mountainous region in Italy and in this area there are the highest monutain ranges of the Apennines ( the massifs of the Gran Sasso, Morrone and Maiella). The presence of these peaks has allowed the development of many and important ski resorts, such as Roccaraso, Campo Imperatore and Campo Felice.

With regard to environment, Abruzzo is one of the most interesting region in Italy because in this area live rare species such as marsican bears, the chamois and wolves. This biodiversity rich and delicate is protect by 3 national parks, 1 regional park and several reserves that cover about a third of Abruzzo's territory.

Moreover, Abruzzo is a region rich in history as witnessed by the numerous castles, medieval villages, cities of art and archaeological sites.
